We have initiated a project on Corn Island to raise the quality of education and the school facilities. The current situation for education is very bad on the island. Facilities and the level of education are poor as well a lack of educational materials.

The first phase of the project consists of two parts. The first part is the renovation of 3 schools which need it the most and the building of pre-school facilities. Pre-school is taught at a woman’s house at the moment.

The project started in July 2007 and at the time of writing 1 renovation has been made and 2 new schools have been built. The total expenses were only USD 130,000.

The second part of the project consists of the renovation of the remaining schools and the improvement of the competence of the teachers. For the “teach the teachers” part we hired a professional teacher trainer for one year. She performs workshops with all 92 teachers on the island to raise the quality of education.

The project is mainly funded by donations from Holland.For the renovation of the remaining school we still need more funding. We also hope to find willing people or ideas through our website.
